Dogs who Jump Up to Greet Company

dog-waiting.jpgYou don't want your guests to say your dog is obnoxious, but nobody likes being jumped on by somebody else's dog. If your company gets assaulted by your dog, they won't want to come back to see you again. Plus they'll think you're not a very good host.

I can come to your home and help you teach your dog to greet your friends politely. Dogs can learn to keep their feet on the floor when they welcome your guests. The key is to show them that they get what they want--the happy connection to the person--only while their feet are on the floor. Scolding doesn't work very well, because it just adds to everybody's agitation. If the dog understands

1.) that a person is going to be coming in

2.) that he needs to stay off the person while he says hello, and

3.) that he will indeed get to greet the person while he keeps his feet on the floor, he will be able to comply and nobody will have to get upset.
